Yoga is the ultimate exercise and means of self-awareness

Its origins are traced in Northern India during the first millennium B.C. and as all human centered practices, has continued to evolve, refining its practices as new knowledge is introduced and incorporated.
The Sanskrit word yoga is commonly interpreted as ‘union’, but it’s worth saying that its primary meaning has always been that of focus on the cultivation of the deepest awareness of the self.
Yoga combines the dimensions of Mind (calm mental/emotional focus), Energy (life-force cultivation through breathing practices) and Body (movement and postures).

Yoga is for everyone; it suits any body shape or life stage (Kids, teens, pregnancy, middle and advanced years) and there are many practices of yoga to choose from. In our center, we will help you find the yoga practice for you, according to your ever changing needs and mood!

Below are descriptions of the main specific schools of yoga taught at L.A.YOGA

Ashtanga: The most athletic and physically demanding form of yoga. The foundation of this ancient system discovered by the late Sri.T.Krishnamacharya and his disciple Pattabhi Jois in the 1930”s involves a series of set postures practiced in sequence. There are 6 sequences in all, the first is known as the Primary Series. A certain level of fitness is required to start Ashtanga.

Hatha: The term Hatha refers to the physical practices of the yoga tradition. Technically, all asana classes can be labeled as Hatha, but in yoga studios, the term generally refers to a slower-paced class that teaches you how to align your body and work with the breath.

Jivamukti Yoga: It is a yoga method that is based on a strong vinyasa practice (connecting yoga asanas through fluid transitions driven through breathing) and it integrates teachings from five other yogic disciplines: Swadhyaya (Study of the Self/Philosophy), Ahimsa (the practice of Non-Violence), Bhakti (Devotion), Nada Yoga (Yoga of Sound) and Meditation.

L.A.YOGA Hot, Fire series: A powerful, nurturing sequence of static postures, practiced in a heated studio, which facilitates safe, deep stretching and a detoxifying sweat. Following specific alignment and timing principles you will systematically work your entire body, cultivating balance, strength and flexibility. Arrive well hydrated and be advised that you need to spend 10 minutes in the heated room before the class starts. Great for beginners and perfect for all levels. The room is heated by standard and infrared systems.

L.A.YOGA Hot, Earth Series: This is an energetic, detoxifying and exhilarating power yoga class performed to music. With dynamic movements and focused balance, this class appeals to all fitness-minded students.

L.A.YOGA Hot, Water Series: This version of the Fire Series is performed to music in subdued lighting. Once students become familiar with basic yoga postures this series frees their minds to explore the mental and emotional benefits of yoga. Music progressively awakens the whole brain, facilitating a deeply satisfying and harmonious union of the physical body with the creative mind.

L.A.YOGA Hot, Metal Series: The Metal Series is conducted at a more vigorous pace than the Fire Series. Flowing continuously from one posture to the next, students find they are challenged to develop greater stamina and strength as they generate internal energy through movement and breathing.

Prana Flow Yoga: A yoga style to get your body moving. Prana Flow classes set you into near- continuous motion, flowing to the pulsing beat of musical accompaniment. Prana Flow Yoga features playful and creative sequencing that often includes elements of dance and Indian martial arts, forming a graceful yet powerful practice.

Restorative Yoga: Specific restorative poses, designed to soothe and relax the nervous system and rest the adrenal glands, enabling the body to move towards balance.

Sacred Energy Arts: It’s a magical, multi disciplinary path to health and self-development. It incorporates teachings from Taoist Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Pranayama and Meditation. These magical fusions will reawaken your practice by helping cultivate strength, flexibility, grace and power.

Space and Flow Yoga: It is a practice of movement and postural relationships inspired by the Feldenkrais Method, Structural Integration via Anatomy Trains, contemporary dance and martial arts. Space and flow yoga is a practice of flowing sequences investigating the ground, the spine, the breath and their various sensations cultivating inner and outer strength, improving one’s flexibility and mobility and creating a greater sense of ease and well-being.

Warm Vinyasa Flow: A vinyasa flow class practiced in an infrared heated room of approximately 35 degrees.

Yin Yoga: It is a slow-paced style of yoga with poses, or asanas, that are held for longer periods of time- five minutes or longer per pose is typical. Yin yoga poses aim to progressively increase the circulation in the joints to improve flexibility.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga: A dynamic flowing style of yoga, harmonizing breath and movement to give strength, grace and freedom.
